For a long time, life was unkind to Charlene. As a child, she lost her father and endured abuse from an alcohol-addicted mother. Having survived the trauma of her childhood, she grows up and, for a time, things seem to take a turn for the better. She graduates from an Ivy League school, scores a top job in the Big Apple, and enjoys all the perks of a young urban professional. Just when everything seems to be coming up roses for Charlene, love calls. And what she hopes will be a fairytale ending winds up being the beginning of her worst nightmare. A series of catastrophic events including a toxic marriage, a devastating divorce, financial ruin and an ungodly relationship conspire to rob Charlene of her mental, physical and emotional health. Deflated and defeated, she succumbs to depression. And the slide down that slippery slope leaves Charlene in a fight not only for her sanity, but also for her life.
